Purpose

Toolbox Talks are designed to bring workers together to inform, share and review safety information specific to the site and other related business activities.


Scope

Employees and contractors at all operational sites.


Goals

Toolbox talks aim to:

  1. Discuss work programs

  2. Forum for training on WHS matters

  3. Review hazards

  4. Review JSEAs

  5. Share information about the business


Method

  1. Every site must conduct a toolbox talk, at least one per week and additional as required
  2. The person in charge of the site is responsible for ensuring the toolbox talk is conducted according to Company procedure
  3. All workers on site must participate in the toolbox talk and sign the toolbox talk form
  4. The person in charge must record the subjects discussed on the toolbox talk form
  5. Milbrae TTT (Toolbox Topic Talk) will be made available periodically by the WHS Coordinator
    • A register of Safety Alerts and TTT is available by contacting the WHS Coordinator
  6. Toolbox talk forms are to be forwarded to the Group Manager (white), WHS Coordinator (blue), and stored in the book on site (yellow).
  7. Where a Toolbox talk forms part of a compulsory training or awareness program the WHS Coordinator will record completion on the training register
  8. Person in charge of the site must assess all hazards raised. An action plan will be developed for hazards identified as Medium or High risk and recorded on the Site Hazard Register
  9. Person in charge of the site must ensure the Hazard Action Plan is completed.

Measures

  • Every operational site completes toolbox talks and maintains toolbox forms

  • 100% identified hazards are actioned within timeframes described in action plan


Roles and Responsibilities

Position Role
Managers To ensure that all sites are compliant with the toolbox talk procedure.
To ensure all hazards identified are actioned and closed out within a reasonable and practicable time frame.
WHS Coordinator To support the toolbox process by providing regular TTT and safety alert documentation
To support person in charge in developing action plans to respond to identified hazards
Team Leaders /
Supervisors /

To conduct toolbox talks according to Company procedure
To access safety alerts and TTT for inclusion in toolbox talks
To engage all persons on site in toolbox talk
To encourage feedback and record hazards or issues raised in toolbox talk
To prepare an action plan for identified hazards
To ensure hazards are resolved according to action plan
To escalate appropriate issues and Category 2 hazards to Manager
Workers To actively participate in toolbox talks
To ensure they have signed toolbox form acknowledging participation
To report any WHSE hazards on site
